BAPTISM
Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. We first find it described in the New Testament in Matthew 3:5-6 and similar accounts in the other gospels. In these texts, baptism is an outward sign of repentance and new life in Jesus. After Jesus’ resurrection, the meaning of baptism was more fully explained as a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus lived the perfect life that we could not live, died the wrath-absorbing death that we deserved to die, and gave us the gift of a right standing before God that we could not earn through our own works. Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is an outward symbol of our identification with Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. It’s an outward expression of the death of who we were and the new life and new hope we have in Jesus.
There is no message more powerful than a changed life, and that is exactly what baptism is meant to embody–a life transformed by Jesus. If you are a follower of Jesus and would like to be baptized, we would be honored to help you take this important step of faith.
FOR PARENTS
Baptism is a big step in the life of a Christian. We are so excited when anyone, child or adult, wants to publicly declare their faith in Jesus! However, as a parent it can be difficult to determine if your child is ready to be baptized or not. We have a baptism guide (see below) designed to help you in this process. As you work through this booklet, you and your child may feel confident about proceeding with baptism, or you may realize more time is needed to be prepared. Regardless, conversations about baptism are an answer to our prayers as parents, and we can trust that God will complete the good work He has begun in us.
